About Me

Sheila received her MS in Human Services and Counseling from Post University, where she also teaches, and her MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Hunter College, where she also graduated as valedictorian in January 2002 with a BA majoring in the Thomas Hunter Honors Program and English with a concentration in creative writing. Sheila is an LPC, CT license #7105.

Since receiving her MFA, she has taught Creative Writing, Composition and Literature at University of Bridgeport, Housatonic Community College, Hunter College, Kaplan University and the College of New Rochelle. She currently serves as Associate Faculty at Post University.

As a writer, Sheila’s interests focus on memoir, women’s issues, health and wellness, and popular culture. Through teaching, coaching, counseling, and speaking, Sheila encourages students and clients to discover their voices and the power of words. Her theatre background allows her to help students explore different viewpoints and learn how to express words, thoughts, and feelings to themselves, and to an audience, if they wish.

Sheila is a certified and nationally registered yoga teacher through Integral Yoga Institute of New York City and the Yoga Alliance. She approaches every day as an opportunity to begin again, another chance to remember who we truly are, another possibility to find joy in being fully alive.  Sheila's teaching focuses on finding one's process--writing and life--that works for each individual, though encouragement, guidance, and gentle pushing, students can begin or continue a journey into their own selves and discover who they have been and who they are, and who they wish to be.

Sheila is available as a therapist, speaker, workshop leader, coach and mentor, and as a teacher. She speaks from her experience as an author, yoga instructor, writing professor and mother. She teaches the empowerment women can find through expressing their true selves. 

We must be willing to face our pasts and learn to love ourselves regardless of the “stories” our lives tell.
